The Foundation for a Better Life creates public service campaigns to communicate the values that make a difference in our communities. These uplifting messages, utilizing television, movie theaters, billboards, radio and the internet, model the benefits of a life lived by positive values. We believe people are basically good but sometimes just need a reminder. And we believe that the positive values we live by are worth more when we pass them on.
The goal of The Foundation for a Better Life is to offer inspirational messages to people everywhere as a contribution toward promoting good values, good role models and a better life.
We choose values we hope most individuals would find encouraging and relevant. Then we provide an uplifting message based on each value, in an effort to encourage people to bring out the best in themselves. As a nonpartisan, nonsectarian organization, we carefully design our public service messages to have general universal appeal.
The Foundation's small staff works with a network of writers, art directors and production professionals. These individuals represent a wide range of ideals, viewpoints and cultural backgrounds. Their diversity reinforces the idea that values can serve as common ground for all.
As a nonprofit organization offering public service announcements, we receive the generous support of air time and media space from many TV, radio and billboard companies. The Foundation does not pay for air time or media space, but rather benefits from donated media space which allows these messages to be seen and heard around the world.
The Foundation for a Better Life has produced award-winning public service television messages, which are designed to uplift viewers with positive values. Each message incorporates popular music to bring the messages to life. The commercials are now seen in over 200 countries around the world. They are also currently aired in Spanish and Portuguese in 20 countries throughout Latin America.
Some of the award-winning artists and writers who have donated their music to our campaigns include the Black Eyed Peas, Aretha Franklin, David Foster, Celine Dion, Jon Bon Jovi, Josh Groban, Diane Warren, Amy Grant, Kenny Chesney, Garth Brooks, Steppenwolf, Back Street Boys, Frank Sinatra and many others.
We appreciate the generous support of The National Music Publishers’ Association and are grateful for our strategic alliance with them. Some of the publishers and record labels who have contributed their music include BMG Chrysalis, EMI, Peermusic, Sony, Universal and Warner/Chappell.
Some of the networks which generously contribute airtime for our messages are ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, Univision, Telemundo, CNN International, Discovery Channel, OTI, ION, Oxygen, OWN, HGTV, SPEED, Travel Channel, BET, Food Network, CW, USA, Sleuth, Bloomberg, National Geographic, Bravo, Real TV, DIY Network, Sorpresa, Telefutura, PBS, the Armed Forces Network and many other independent stations. We could not do what we do without them.
Our commercials are often played in movie theatres on lobby screens and on ahead of feature films. We greatly appreciate the generous support of Regal Cinemas, Cinemark, Edwards Theatres, United Artists Theatres, AMC Theatres, National Cinemedia and Cinema Concepts.
Billboards are an important component of the Foundation’s public service effort. These messages, depicting heroes of our time, are seen across America’s highways and on Times Square. Thousands of schools around the world also use our motivational materials to communicate positive values to youth.
The Outdoor Advertising Association of America has recognized the Pass It On campaign as “...the most successful public service campaign in the history of outdoor advertising.”
Some of the heroes we’ve featured include Muhammad Ali, Oprah Winfrey, Kermit the Frog, the Mona Lisa, Wayne Gretzky, Winston Churchill, Mother Theresa, Nelson Mandela, Gandhi, Albert Einstein, Shrek, Whoopi Goldberg, Mozart, the Wright Brothers, Jane Goodall and Michelle Kwan, plus many other remarkable individuals.
We appreciate the tremendous support of the Outdoor Advertising Association for America and its members, including Clear Channel, Lamar, CBS Outdoor, JC Decaux North America and Van Wagner Communications. In 2012, we were also able to post electronic versions of our billboards in London, thanks to the support of Clear Channel UK.
The Foundation produces radio PSAs based on individuals featured in the billboard campaign. These PSAs are distributed to several thousand stations and networks, including CBS, ABC, Clear Channel, FOX Radio and Premiere Radio Networks.
