Yes, Kerry is correct. This quotation was used by Nelson Mandela in one of his speeches, but is originally written by Marianne Williamson. It has been passed around incorrectly in many places on the internet and even in published quote markets as by Nelson Mandela. Posted over 1 year ago by Sage P from Cedar City
I am fairly certain that you have misattributed this quote, and that the author is Marianne Williamson, whom Mandela was quoting in his speech. It is from her book A Return to Love. I am sure she would appreciate being properly credited for the thought. Posted about 2 years ago by Kerry O from New York City
Inspirational Quote
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine as children do. It's not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own lights shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
