Effective Ideas

  • Nominate Student Heroes: Faculty, administrators, advisors, and students can nominate others whom they feel exemplify one of the 60+ values found on the Foundation for a Better Life website. The media sometimes focuses on negative stories about students on campus; this is an opportunity to highlight the local heroes—students, faculty, staff, etc.—in your community.
  • TV Commercials/Posters: TV Commercials can be used in meetings, at events, even in the classroom as discussion starters. The posters can be displayed in student life buildings, at various academic and administrative buildings, dorms, rec centers, cafeterias, etc. Smaller versions for table tents in the student union buildings can also be made available. These posters feature celebrities, legends, and everyday heroes. Request a free set of materials.
  • Build Your Own Billboard: Use this feature as a class assignment or as a way to honor a friend or colleague. The Create Your Own Billboard feature has been one of our most popular and meaningful sections to date. Simply upload a photo, write a line, select a value and print up your own billboard and share!
  • English/Creative Writing Classes: Why not create a values-based essay assignment? Students select one of the values on the FBL website and then write about what that value means or looks like to them. We will even work with you to post the best pieces on the site which gives students exposure to a worldwide audience. Currently we have visitors from over 200 countries coming to the site each month who make comments on stories. This is a great place to showcase quality thinking and writing.
  • Athletic Events: TV Commercials can be played on the giant screens at basketball, football, and other athletic events. If you need a special broadcast-quality format, please let us know.
  • Freshman Orientation: incorporating FBL materials into classes, essays, etc. Use TV commercials to begin discussions on values on campus for both students and parents.
  • Website: Here students have the opportunity to “tell their story“ in written and video formats. Creativity is unlimited in terms of personal expressions and feelings about values such as: courage, sharing, generosity, etc. As with Facebook or other social networking sites original hand-held camera productions are welcome. Students and faculty can also sign up for quote of the day emails or download wallpaper, podcasts and send pass-it-on-ecards all with a values theme. Also available is a quote of the day widget that can be added to a school’s (or department’s) website.
  • Campus TV/Radio: TV stations can play over 30 public service announcements promoting various values. We also offer Spanish language versions of the TV commercials.
  • Campus Newspaper: Print Ads of our billboards are available to place in campus newspapers.
  • PR/Advertising/Marketing Classes: Use the Foundation as a basis for a research project or case study on how to customize and promote positive values more effectively on campus.
  • Broadcasting/Journalism/Production Classes: Assign Journalism students to write stories and articles about people who exemplify positive values. The school newspaper could have a regular column featuring a value of the week. Editors could even create a “good news“ section highlighting students and their service projects. There could also be documentaries on service projects where students are involved (i.e. habitat for humanity, soup kitchens, etc). The Foundation would be happy to post the best stories and articles on our site as well.
  • Campus Libraries: Put The Foundation for a Better Life screensavers / wallpaper on computers in the library, labs, or at other school-run facilities on campus.
  • Campus Seminars: Your university could sponsor academic discussions and panels where particular values and their importance in career fields are examined through guest speakers, student participation, and presentation of papers.
  • Campus Busses: “Wrap“ campus busses with FBL billboard images.
