The beginning of our sophomore seasons all my friends and I were on the JV Football team. We had a lot to prove with all the talent we had. We started off the season with a 1 -2 record. Coach Keeney brought us together and told us to work together and believe. At that moment we became a better team. We started consistently scoring more than 35 points a game. Hermitage week came up and was the biggest game of the season. They had an undefeated season at the time and have been undefeated on JV for the past 4 seasons. We started off the game with tremendous energy and our offense would drive down the field and bring the ball into their red zone but could not score. At halftime we were down 27 to 7. Coach brought us together and talked about how we can’t give up and we have to believe that we are better than the opponent. We went out back on the field with the ball first and started rolling from there. Eventually late in the 4th quarter we took the lead with a rushing touchdown. We were now leading for the first time in the game 29 -27, but they still had time to go back down the field and either tie the game and send it to overtime or win. With the remaining seconds they brought the ball out to mid field. The quarter back snapped the ball dropped back and passed the ball right down the middle and right into the hands of our free safety Nicky Vignone, which ended the game right then and there. We regrouped after the game and coach Keeney came up to us and talked about believing in each other and accomplishing any task we had if we all just believed. We ended the season with a 7-3 record and were first in the colonial district for JV.
