Your Everyday Hero: Jessica C.

This may sound like a strange nomination; however, I would like to nominate my daughter Jessica. She is only 5 years old but she is an inspiration beyond her years. In October of 2005, she helped me put together a donation drive for school supplies for the Hurricane Katrina victims. Our family delivered these supplies to a school district in East Baton Rouge for displaced students. Jessica was involved from day one. She helped collect the items, she helped organize and pack them as well. She also helped encouage her kindergarten class to get involved and they gathered items that we took with us. Upon our arrival to Baton Rouge, Jessica continued her help as she helped unload the boxes and bags of supplies. Jessica was 100% involved. I never knew that a 5-year-old child could be such and inspiration to their parent as Jessica was to me. In closing, as we drove down the coast I asked Jessica what she had learned. She said, 'I wish I could help. I wish I could help them build a new house.' What could ever compare to that! The proudest moment of a parent's life!
