Who Is Your Hero?

Do you have a personal hero? Tell us about them. It doesn’t have to be perfect to make a difference in someone else’s life.

Your Everyday Hero: Marin M.

I personally don't know Marin, but I know of Marin through her journal on her website. She was diagnosed with brain cancer in February 2005 and, at 12 years old, she has shown remarkable resilience, strength, and a positive attitude. She was a member of the Swim Atlanta Swim Team and I heard about her through Mark Henderson (Gold Medalist in Swimming). Reading about her journey with cancer, operations, radiation treatment, and her fountain of positive spirits, she has the power of life that is so rarely seen. I admire her greatly so much for her journey and her optimism to get back into the pool. Unfortunately, after her first surgery, her cancer came back. After a recent surgery, she was paralyzed on her right side. It may be that she never reaches her dream of the Olympics, but her optimism on recovery and, most importantly, life has not diminished. She is a true hero in every sense of the word.
