Who Is Your Hero?

Do you have a personal hero? Tell us about them. It doesn’t have to be perfect to make a difference in someone else’s life.

Your Everyday Hero: Jena S.

Jena is the 2005 Miss Junior National Teenager and is a sophomore in high school. She is taking her crown, sash and title and using it to teach other teens across the nation about volunteerism and how much fun it is. For six years Jena has volunteered for the American Cancer Society and has raised over $50,000 so far. Winning this title has given her the opportunity to travel and speak about what volunteering means to her.

Through her website, Jena mentors teens from out of state on how to start their own Relay for Life teams that benefits the American Cancer Society. She has created several fundraising activities. She created Cartridge for Kids at her middle school as well as Stay Warm for Winter sweater drive that benefits the homeless which both still continue. Volunteering to her does not mean putting on her crown and signing autographs. It means rolling up her sleeves and working. Sometimes volunteering may not be glamorous, but it's about the community service benefit.

She is proud to represent her State and Nation as Miss Junior National Teenager and has set a personal goal to make 100 volunteer appearances before her year ends in July.
