Your Everyday Hero: Donald L.

Aside from being a terrific father, my dad showed me what integrity meant all the time. He was a good friend to so many people. He died peacefully about five years ago and I thought I knew all I could know about him. Last weekend at a church social, a former babysitter of mine told me that her father had called my dad when her baby brother was unconscious. He drove over to the house, took them to the hospital, and stayed with them. The baby had died, so my father took the parents to the funeral home to choose a small casket and make the arrangements. The woman told me her parents had so much respect for my dad; that he was always helping people, giving a little money when it was needed, and not saying anything about it. What a beautiful story to hear from someone so long after his death. He lived out his faith in the most ordinary ways and his impact lives on.
