Rayme N

Lifetime of Service

Random acts of kindness, a sudden epiphany or a midlife conversion define so many of our acts of charity. Even amongst those serving in not-for-profit charities, in time many become hardened to the brokenness and pain life sometime brings others. However, there are those few exceptional individuals who truly live their life in service to others and Rayme Nuckles is one. Over the past two decades Rayme has passionately advocated for those less fortunate in order to strengthen the character of local communities.
Rayme Nuckles has served as the CEO of the Homeless Coalition of Hillsborough County, located in Tampa Florida, since December 2003. The Coalition is a nonprofit organization that was incorporated in June 2000. Coalition members include state, regional, and local government agencies; the public housing authority; nonprofit organizations that provide medical, substance abuse, mental health, housing, and employment services; the local school district; individual businesses; homeless and formerly homeless individuals, and representatives of homeless advocacy groups; the faith-based community; veteran service agencies; and law enforcement and corrections. The purpose of the Coalition, as stated in its bylaws, is “to bring together various entities, agencies, service organizations, and individuals to establish and maintain a concentrated effort to break the cycle of homelessness in Hillsborough County, Florida.” He also serves as the President of the Florida Coalition for the Homeless and has served on the board since 2003. He currently serves on the Governor's Council on Homelessness, is Chair of the Continuum of Care Committee for the Council, and on the Executive Committee. He also currently serves on the Affordable Housing Task Force of Hillsborough County Florida. He has also served as the President of the Iowa Chapter of Housing and Redevelopment Officials, the President of the Domestic Violence Center and he has been very active with many non-profits as a board chairperson or board member. He has created or assisted in the creation of over 30 separate non-profits, working with childrens programs, adult self-sufficiency, home-ownership and other health related issues.
Rayme not only professionally does all he can but is not beyond opening his home at times to those needing a roof over their head or making sure a family has the best Christmas of their life, or ensuring the future of someone aging out of foster care. He does not seek the lime light or the accolades one might come to expect of a life lived in service to others. He truly is a man of integrity, excellence, courage and a pioneer. No he does not fly around with a red cape and an “S” on his chest. Nor wear a white Stetson and ride a horse name Silver. Instead, he puts on his biker leathers and rides off on his “hog” in search of someone else to help.
