Jean and Al T

I am nominating Al and Jean, now in their 70s, for the utter compassion (as well as courage, determination, and commitment, and sacrifice) they have shown in caring for their now 29-year-old grandson, who is paralyzed from the chest down, with severe cerebral palsy and mental retardation. They have loved and nurtured him tenderly (while taking care of all of his daily needs including catherization) since he was one-year-old, through 45 major surgery and many, many health problems. They gave up their business to move him to a warmer climate and devote all their time to him. One surgeon told me, "There's no medical reason for his survival. It's the love they give."

That is really cute. Your mom is smart. :-) This is a really good reminder that usually the very best way to change our thoughts is through action. Great!

This is so true! We all have days when it's hard to see the sunshine in our lives through life's storms - it is a blessing when we have someone to remind us that there is still some good in the world...if we are wise, we will become strong enough to hold on to the gift, even through the squall, and will help soneone else who is having trouble seeing through those "endless" clouds.

this a good pick me up to know that good deeds do pay off somewhere down the line. Even if you don't receive something physically, you will get paid back some other way.
