Love Bomb

I parked my car in the large crowded lot and walked toward the supermarket. A blond woman passed me pushing a nearly full cart to her car. She smiled at me and said hello. I did the same. She was a plain Jane, probably in her 40s. She reached her car and began unloading her groceries. I walked back toward her and said “I recently moved here from California. What I like a lot about Texas is that pretty ladies smile at me.” Surprised, she thanked me and after a careful pause said softly, “No one calls me a pretty lady.” I said “You’re welcome” and walked on toward the store. I had just dropped a love bomb.
