Growing up, I was raised by a man I called, "my father." He was not a nice man, he was racist, and judgmental of others. I was 37, and with my partner for 9 1/2 years when my father first acknowledged her and spoke to her. Since then the love for his only daughter has grown exponentially. The following year he sent a $200 check to MY partner and I so we could make sure OUR family had Christmas. My partner has a disease that my dad did, and he continually checks on her, listens to her concerns and helps her as much as he can. This past Mother's day, he met her for the first time, my parents, partner, youngest son, and I had a blast while they were visiting. For a man to go from verbally abusive to such a loving and accepting person is a true example of love, courage, character, honor, kindness, inspiring others, hope, and making a difference.
