Do you have a good values-based story to tell? It doesn’t have to be perfect to make a difference in someone else’s life.
Share A Story NowA few years ago, I was the single mom of two kids, aged 12 and 14. Times, as always for us, were very hard. I spent 85% of my pay for rent. I went to the corner store about 9pm with a friend, and saw a man sitting against a wall, not unusual in our area, but this man had both hands covered to the wrists in bandages. He ended up telling me he was a glass worker with no workers comp or medical, had an accident with plate glass, had been dropped off here from the county hospital, and had a friend coming. We gave him our love and prayers and went home.
At 11pm, we happened to drive by and saw him again. His friend never showed. I had recently had a tax return, so I went home and got money, and gave him 100 dollars and told him to get a taxi and a place to stay. I have not seen him since; I am broke now, 6 years later, but I do not regret giving. The feeling that I could effect change in someone's life was worth it. I give unconditionally, and I wish others could do so. Putting conditions on giving is ego, not caring. Let your ego go, there are billions of people, just help when you can!

I can share a story where someone helped me. One day, I was in the check-out line with my three year old and did not have enough money for the grocery bill. My debit card was denied. The lady behind me gave me $20. I do not know her, but I have not forgotten her kindness. She said she had been in my situation and that she could help. I hesitated, but did accept her help graciously. It is very reassuring that single mom's are not alone, and that people like you and her are willing to lend a hand. I do not like taking or asking for any help, but I do like to help others through volunteering and donating. I wish I could give a lot more. Thank you for helping that man when he needed help most.

Wow, I am speechless... that was really nice of you and I bet that it gave you a nice feeling inside when you did it.
