Catalina Loves Morro

It was at a gathering of former residents of a Los Angeles neighborhood known as Chavez Ravine. City officials uprooted them from their homes for what was supposed to be housing for the poor. When that plan fell through, the city sold the land to the owners of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Their neighborhood is now Dodger's Stadium. I was interviewing people who had once lived there. Catalina Ortiz told me about life at Chavez Ravine, and then told the greatest love story I've ever heard. The minute I saw her interacting with her husband at a reunion picnic, I knew there was a story behind their love. Catalina was bigger than Morro, but it was obvious their love for each other was bigger than both of them combined. I set up my television camera and simply said, "Tell me about your first encounter with Morro." Her response from more than 20 years ago set the standards for me when it comes to loving someone.

Candlelight

“Candlelight” By: Patricia L. Bay, Psy.D. I looked across the room and saw him staring at me. He did not need to explain what he meant. I could…

Devoted Mother.

Growing up has always been a struggle. Ever since I was a baby, my Mom has been nothing but a loving single mother.
