Follow your heart

To all the young people out there: When choosing a career path or what profession you wish to be in, I say follow your heart. Yes, monetary income is important, but so is doing what you enjoy, or have a passion for. In the end, I believe you will be happier if you do the latter. I am 60 years old so I know, as I didn't follow my heart, but wish I had. Good luck to you all, our future generation. MORE

Little Things Still Mean A Lot

Recently, I experienced a wonderful lesson in how little things still mean a lot. It has always been tempting for one to believe "My life makes no difference" or "What impact do I have on the world? I'm just one person. No one notices me." This past spring I got a head's up, which reminded me of why Sunday School lessons, for example the Parable of the Good Samaritan, remain relevant and timele... MORE

Near Death and Back

My whole childhood I focused on training to play professional soccer. Through the mid 90's I advanced through Olympic training and on June 13, 1997 I was competing with a minor league team when a 16 year old ran a stop sign. That night changed my life. I was on my motorcycle and got hit by a car, partially paralyzing me for 6 months. I lost most my memory, suffered coma symptoms and had to lear... MORE

Mr. and Mrs. Positive

I have two really good friends, Nancy and Richard. They both believe in the power of positive thinking. However, though their personalities are similar, they are totally different in other areas of their lives. The biggest differences are their childhood, career choices, and lifestyles. The first difference is their childhood. Nancy's childhood was filled with love, stability, and concern for ... MORE

Choosing to Forgive

No one likes to talk about forgiveness, because for most people I think it has a religious connotation. But the dictionary definition of “forgive” is “to stop feeling angry or resentful towards something.” And I’m sure many people have managed to do that. I know I have, and I know how hard it is. To let go of feeling wronged is probably the hardest part. I had bee... MORE

A Teacher's Lesson

We stood there on the corridor of our classroom talking with our English teacher, not on academic matters but on general issues. He was really speaking with us as if we were full adults. We were still in our penultimate class in high school. In the cause of our discussion my friend made a comment. Then our teacher stopped talking for a moment and said in effect, "You have just spoken like... MORE

Faith

My sister had failed out of school and was making very unwise decisions with her life. She chose to spend her time with people who were lost as she was. They all chose to ignore their responsibilities and supported one another in a life which involved drinking and partying. Sadly, they were all losing time. They were young and had the potential to become whatever they wanted if they would only ... MORE
