Your Everyday Hero: Debay D.

I nominate my sister, Debay, as my hero. Three years ago I was diagnosed with Leukemia and she was there for me. Not only did she travel to Montreal from the Dominican Republic to be with me through my first and most terrifying induction treatment of chemo, but when the time came for me to find a donor for bone marrow she was there. My whole family came forward for testing, which in itself is something I can be thankful for. But my sister was the one who was a perfect match. When we found out she was the match, she traveled back to Montreal, spent two days in the hospital having her bone marrow extracted and went home the next day. Her bone marrow is now in a freezer in the hospital should I ever need it. She is convinced I won't, but just knowing that it is there and she is part of me makes me want to cry each time I think of it. Debay truly is my hero.
