Your Everyday Hero: Steven W.

Steve W., Rufus King High School's hero, selflessly devotes time, talent and treasure to better the school and its students. A man of deep integrity, he embodies the qualities of the National Honor Society chapter he runs: scholarship, service, leadership, character. Spending 12 hours every weekday and often weekend time to ensure top-notch teaching, Steve demands his students' best and always gives 110%. Students feel his scholarship and truly learn! His service, however, extends far beyond teaching. When in need, people turn to Steve. At school and outside he demonstrates courage and humility to serve in various projects: summer computer lab cleaning, the local rescue mission...As a leader, Steve wears a shirt and tie, demonstrating professionalism. He never fears setting a positive example or challenging the status quo if it does not serve students' needs. Steve's character, particularly his honesty and compassion, sets him apart. Watching him is a lesson in how to live. Always courteous and respectful, he takes time to know his students, who feel his deep care and concern. Steve demonstrates Mother Theresa's words: he does not stop work to pray; work is his prayer, which makes him the best hero King High School could have.
