Who Is Your Hero?

Your Everyday Hero: Tse Yuet M.

Tse Yuet, is father of nine daughters, Chinese butcher by trade, artist, inspirationalist, and is my grandfather. He came out of China to Hong Kong, then to Yellowknife and Vancouver and my ties with him start from Yellowknife at age three. I remember how he would teach me about the wonders of animals, the marvels of him weaving into life, from scrap plastic strips lively animals, animals mythological and real, eating his potstickers and all sorts of delectable foods a cook would know. He inspired my temper, my curiosity, my creativity and my love of nature. To my mother and aunts, he was a loving and fun-loving father. To the community, he was a brilliant business man, creative and honest, who fed his workers well, and a few times during typhoon season gave out food to the homeless- rice and BBQ pork and even juicy Chinese sausage. To me he was a pillar I could lean on until Alzheimer's took him away the summer of grade 10. It's been six years and my soul aches, I can't form new memories with him, I can only share with you my grandpa, my weekend babysitter, my hero.
